Am I really an art thief? I don't think so

Well this happened last weekend after I went out for the day on a ferry cruise around the Csco Bay islands (omg...so much fun) and I made back on my laptop to find that someone was accusing me of art theft. I did send her a reply explaining I merely referenced from the post and that I didn't trace or anything. But I didn't get a respond yet. But anyways I just felt like ranting.

Well I'll compare our pics

This is hers (a link since I really don't believe in posting other people's artwork in blogs without permission.)

and this is mine

Yeah I know...both poses are rather similar but they're not exactly the same. And OF COURSE I DIDN'T TRACE. I NEVER TRACE! I wanted the pose to look just like inspiration pic, so alot of erasing and sketching went into this! I did not trace - I DO NOT trace. So I hope we can make that clear

ok?
Plus the anatomy is very different...Beliar happens to be bigger than Hougen and I made the legs longer on Beliar because I was following deer anatomy than making anatomically incorrect ripoff. Because well...Beliar is a deer, not a dog. I have to make him look like a deer. Not a dog

Yeah yeah...I know deer don't poop like that but I only drew that in such a pose to make it funny.

Also another truth...you cannot copyright a pose. Poses are free...there's only so many of them and there are millions of pieces all over the world that have a similar pose. Is it right to call all those pieces ripoffs? I don't think so. However tracing is different...that is when someone printed the pic and threw a blank piece of paper over and had run a pencil over the lines. And I didn't do any of that. that was draw 100% freehand...I may had the pic on my comp screen while drawing Beilar but is not tracing...that is inspiration and referencing. Inspiration and copying are two VERY different things. I get inspired with all my all from various things...music, movies, games, and other people's pieces. Is it wrong to make a piece because you got inspired by something? I don't think so.

Ok so let me get this straight...I did not trace or copy the original. I was inspired, drew freehand, and referenced.

Got it?

You better get it or else!

And out of etiquette...I rewritten the artist comment and credited the original pic. So we can settle this.

And to the artist that accused me of "art theft"...I'm not trying to start any wars. I'm just straightening things out.

kthanksgoodbye

Ilustrations...

They are so much fun to make. Recently I discovered this new technique where I would color a pencil sketch digitally on Photoshop. It's all thanks to his nice tutorial I found on DeviantArt. Since then I've been making some of my art pieces in that style rather than in my classic sharp vector style like I did with one of my characters.

Here's a small sampling of pieces I did that was drawn in the new sketch style.

Also another thing, I believe that these illustration type pics I've been making is good for my art portfolio for interviews with art schools. You can see a page of my portfolio pieces here. I'll porbatly be adding more pieces as time goes by.

Comic Time! *TEF MANGA*

LexFirehind's picture

Hi everyone. I hope you all had a lovely weekend and those who live in the US has a nice long weekend as well.

Well...I was at home this past weekend. Even though I have no internet at home and cannot play TEF there, I find home the best place to come up with new pictures and art ideas. So one night, I was just doodling in one of my many drawing and sketch pads and it dawned on me: I should make a TEF comic/manga.

Right now I'm editing the first page in Photoshop and will later go out to get materials at the local art shop. But the story will follow my main deer, Luis as the main character and will follow his life and events in TEF that happened while I am a member. The pages will be drawn on drawing paper with pen and ink *might get India ink and sponges for foliage and other effects. The comic will have that old manga look for it will have no color. Just ink.

Please click here for an example of an old manga. I luv luv luv the Ginga series =3

Well anyways Im posting the pages and covers at a blog on the TEF community site but once I made a number of pages, I will also post them to my Deviantart gallery.

So stay tuned for pages coming soon =3

PS...can my comic be considered a manga due to the fact my drawing style is like a mix of manga and Disney or does it have to be made in Japan and more like an anime style?

Ideas as commsions for Project Greenleaf

Yeah I was just thinking lately about how many members of Project Greenleaf often have more than one type of item they sell in their stores. And I fiugred that maybe I could add a few things too since I have the supplies and sometime need to do stuff to get entertained.

If you noticed I've been selling these wooden deer shaped painted as ornaments. You can read more info about them in this blog. I am hoping I will get more sales with them once Christmas is more on the way.

And lately I've been considering making jewelry such as this necklace to help with Greenleaf. I just got myself some beads and pendants and I've see many forest-themed pendants such as leaves, birds, and dragonflies in craft store websites. The necklace in the above pic I will keep personally but I can make duplicates of it esp for Moonsorro from TEF when I decide to sell them.

And another things I want to try is to make clay deer figures like Seenya's in this blog. I only have white clay that will air dry due to not having an oven but I can use my paints to paint them like deer in possible future requests.

Got my laptop fixed

Yep you heard it...I got my laptop fixed. I had some kids who take computer repair classes reformat it. With it being devoid of viruses, it's like it's running like new. And not only that I got my Photoshop cs4 installed so you guys can look foward to my new art in DA and TEF. Hopefully won't have too much school stuffs in the way.
